Hetty Haden, Elly's eldest daughter, remembers her mother by a poem:

"Hi family;
I felt like writing a poem about Mom's 20th year of her passing. It may be a little corny, and very sentimental. but that's what this is all about- so be it.
love to all of you.
Hetty"

Twenty Years Without Mom
For Elly Cassutto
1931-1984

It's a feeling that won't go away;
I miss her so much each and every day.

It's hard to think, she has missed so much;
Grandchildren born and grown, some not seen or touched.

Her sons have moved on, gone ahead with their lives.
The 'girls' have become much more than wives.

This house that I have lived in for so many a year;
She's never seen it, but I feel she is here.

When all of us get together, laugh, sing and eat,
Mom is looking at us from above, the circle complete.

Though she is gone, she never has left.
We thank God for her, even though we're bereft.

What would we be without having her for a Mom?
We'd still be Cassuttos but with no aplomb.

She has instilled the best in us all.
May 5 is here now so we heed the call:

Let us gather again, our respects to be paid.
Twenty years does not make her memory fade.

She's in Heaven with Dad, of that we are sure;
Though for broken hearts I doubt there's a cure.

Mom was there to meet loved ones, waiting at the Gate;
For those departed after her, that was more than fate.

Dad, Oom George, Tante Puck, Oom Max and Nicky,
She is in heaven with Sam and Vicky.

Tante Grie, Opa and Oma were there to greet her.
Some day, we all hope to reunite and meet her.

We were together with Mom in suffering and sadness.
With God's help and love we will be with her in gladness.

Hetty
