Leonore and Bas on vacation in Egypt

Liefs,

Leonore en Bas

Hetty and Jim Haden-Cassuto in the upper layers of the stratosphere in Las Vegas.
Hetty and Jim had a great time, after a tense period.. How much did you win at gambling, Hetty?
Hetty answered: I won $111 playing the video poker machine. Alas, I kept playing and started losing ( all on the same $20 I put in) so I stopped and 'cashed in' $75. I did not want to lose it all! I usually don't bet very much, unlike my brother-in-law who bets a few thousand. I don't believe he won anything this time. I did make a $20  bet for the Baltimore Orioles(Baseball) team to win the World Series, at 40-1 odds, which is played in October. We shall see what happens.

Hetty remembers mother Elly and father Ernest:
Today, April 23, would have been Elly's 74th birthday.
Yesterday would have been Ernest and Elly's 56th wedding anniversary.
This time of early spring in our area was always so full of family time spent together, celebrating our parents' wedding day and Mom's birthday simultaneously.
There is no special dinner or cake planned for today.
But, I went outside just before a spring storm passed by and looked at the tulips that bloomed in my side-yard, next to the house. My children had given me these flowers for Mothers' Days in years past.
I thought about mom, who's date of passing is coming up and now Mother's Day approaching,
and how much we miss her.
My thoughts went to my own daughter's expecting
her baby girls in a few months,
and how much I wish Mom and Dad could be here to witness becoming great-grandparents and share in our joy. Somehow, I know she is watching over Kelly right now and smiling down on the new babies-to-be. She is watching over all of my sisters' and brother's children as they go through their lives' triumphs or disappointments.
This time of spring, renewal is in the air and the scent of flowers and new green grass brings much anticipation to mind. Yet, with Mom and Dad not here to share it with me, it brings with it a sense of longing and sadness too.
Being a Christian I am reminded of Christ's promise of Eternal Life for those who believe in Him. This reminder turns my sadness to joy as I know my parents are, indeed, realizing that promise today and have given to us the greatest gift of all.

Rob Cassuto and Minke Cannegieter on vacation 2003:

.
We were the last two weeks of July and the first week of august in France, in the part of Burgundy called the "Morvan" region. The first two weeks we spent in a center for creativity courses,
l'Huis Préau. In a beautiful mansion and compound in the National Park of the Morvan we did a lot of painting.

Vanity brings me to include an enlarged version: click on the picture.

after the painting week we merged in a week of theater and songs; then we left l'Huis Preau for a week of hanging out at some beautiful lakes like this, lake Chaumeçon (photo taken at dusk), which was a most sensible thing to do in the heat wave of those weeks, a canicul the French call it.
